Pimples on the Scalp

October 7th, 2009 by admin

The scalp is mostly covered with hair thus it is understandable that some people may not notice that they have scalp bumps until they scratch an itchy part of their scalp and feel it. One of the reasons for having small bumps in the scalp is the scalp pimples.

Just like the skin on the other parts of your body, your scalp has oil glands too. There are circumstances when these oil glands tend to secrete oil around hair follicles which causes these follicles to swell thus scalp pimples appear. Scalp pimples are common in both newly born babies and adults. It is believed that the presence of scalp pimples in newly born babies is due to their sensitive skin’s exposure to their mothers’ hormones that may irritate their scalp. Scalp pimples as well as other scalp problems and conditions like dandruff and head lice can be treated by using certain scalp products that are commonly available over the counter or in stores.

For large bumps in the scalp, it is advisable to consult a doctor or a dermatologist before trying scalp products as it may be caused by other health conditions such as dermatitis, skin cancer or cysts. These health conditions are treated in a different manner and thus require professional care.
